U.S. District Judge Richard Leon approved the settlement after Dell Chairman and CEO Michael Dell assured the judge in a hearing that the PC maker will definitely carry through the reforms it promised. The Securities and Exchange Commission had stated that Dell had improperly used payments from Intel to boost its profits to meet Wall Street targets for over five years. Michael Dell agreed to pay a $4 million fine in the settlement out of his own pocket. The company has agreed to stiffen their procedure of disclosing financial information to shareholders.
